Year 5 Objectives W/C 30/11/15


Literacy

In Year 5 this week, we will be learning:

  • identify personal pronouns and explain what they are
  • develop comprehension skills of a number of different non-fiction texts
  • subordinating conjunctions and how to use them





Mathematics

In Year 5 this week, we will be learning:

  • read timetables using the 24 hour clock; calculate time intervals
  • to be able to solve problems involving time.

Year 6 Objectives W/C 30/11/15

Literacy

In Year 6 this week, we will be learning:

  • to draw conclusions about characters; and
  • to write the beginning of a flashback story.


Mathematics

In Year 6 this week, we will be learning:

  • to read and interpret data from a variety of graphs and charts;
  • to solve problems associated with data handling; and
  • to find different averages (mean, median, range and mode).

Year 5 Maths Games

Year 5 have recently had the opportunity to create their very own maths games. The children thought about the various rules, as well as the problem solving that would be involved. Below are a few photographs to show the children creating the games.

Year 6 Objectives W/C 23/11/15

Literacy

In Year 6 this week, we will be learning:

  • to identify the features of flashbacks in narrative and film; and
  • to write in the first person empathising with a fictional character.


Mathematics

In Year 6 this week, we will be learning:

  • to read and interpret data from a variety of graphs and charts;
  • to apply our knowledge of fractions and percentage when reading pie charts; and
  • to find different averages (mean, median, range and mode).

Year 5 Objectives W/C 16/11/15











Literacy

In Year 5 this week, we will be learning:

  •  how to create and perform our own poems.
  •  understand the correct guidelines for adding suffixes and prefixes to words.
  • Add an extra verse to a poem, whilst keeping the style the poet has already created.

Mathematics

In Year 5 this week, we will be learning:

  • how to add and subtract multiples of 0.1 or 0.01 within 2 decimal places.
  • Subtract pairs of numbers with one decimal place.
  • Subtract pairs of numbers with two decimal places using counting up.

Year 6 Objectives W/C 16/11/15

Literacy

In Year 6 this week, we will be learning:

  • to empathise with different characters from Macbeth; and
  • to write in the first person.
In Reading, Grammar and Spelling we will be completing Year 6 assessment tests.

Mathematics

In Year 6 this week, we will be learning:

  • to convert between fractions, decimals and percentages; and
  • to find percentages of different numbers and quantities.

Year 5 Poetry Glossary

In year 5 we have been reading, writing and analysing a variety of different poems. Whilst analysing the poems we have been using a selection of poetic terms. Below is a list of some of the more common poetic terms, along with their meanings.

Literacy

In Year 5 this week, we will be learning:

  •  listen and respond to a variety of poetic forms.
  •  understand how contractions and colloquial language is used within poetry 

Mathematics

In Year 5 this week, we will be learning:

  • recognising multiples using rules of divisibility.
  • finding prime numbers less than 50
  • division using vertical layout

  • to find fractions of different numbers and quantities.

Year 6: Drawing a 3D face

As part of our current Art topic, we have been learning how to draw a 3D face using the rules of proportion. After studying the Andrew Loomis approach to drawing, our budding artists had a go at following the steps required in order to draw a 3D face. Although it proved a challenge, our Year 6 pupils were resilient and produced some very impressive drawings! We are looking forward to shading to our drawings next week.

In Year 5 this week, we will be learning:

  • to perform and recite a piece of classical poetry; and
  • to respond to a variety of different poems through newspaper articles.

Mathematics

In Year 5 this week, we will be learning:

  • to use the standard written method for long multiplication; and
  • to use and apply the standard written method of long multiplication in the context of real life.

Literacy

In Year 6 this week, we will be learning:

  • to use direct and reported speech; and
  • to write newspaper reports using formal vocabulary.

Mathematics

In Year 6 this week, we will be learning:

  • to order and compare fractions with different denominators; and
  • to add and subtract fractions with different denominators.
